Or - seeing red, only in a GOOD way. ::Grin::
The table topper is complete:
STATS:
- Pattern - Pineapple doily from Kitschy Crafts by Jo Packham and Matt Shay
- Yarn - 5 and a smidge skeins Cotton Ease in Cherry Red. Not the original, nice CE - the thinner, "seconds" I complained so much about when it was discontinued. The thinner yarn, however, is better for this type of project.
- Hook - Size H
- Mods - Yes. The pattern didn't quite match the picture in some places so when that happened I just followed the picture. I also changed the edging to double crochets 'cause I was impatient for it to be done!
I really like it. :) It ended up 47" across from pineapple tip to pineapple tip. I'll leave it out for Xmas but I'll also use it at other times of the year since it matches my red decor.
It was very nice to finish a semi-substantial project that wasn't a sweater!
Speaking of projects, I tried making candles yesterday:
However, in my haste (I had WAY too much to do yesterday!) I kinda/sorta screwed up my brilliant two-color candle plan. (What you see is two colors of wax combining as I snapped the picture.) I also thought the wax had quit contracting and cut the wicks too soon, so now I'm unable to fill up the deep wells that ended up around the wicks without drowning them! I re-filled the candles twice but I guess a third time would've been the charm.
Here's me, realizing I screwed up:
(See - even my nose is red!) I should've run out to get more wax right then but I didn't and now I'll have to wait until Monday since Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays. Sigh.
I'll keep these candles for my own use so it's not a total loss. :)
I've not given up on the gift idea, however! I'm going to make more using my plastic, store-bought molds. I don't have to worry about wells around the wicks (they're filled from the bottom) and I have a few shapes to choose from. No worries - I won't truly be in a panic about this until NEXT weekend. ::wink::
I'm also going to pick up some jojoba oil today & make lip balms. Luckily, our local "healthy" grocery store carries a full supply of carrier oils & essential oils. At least I can buy those on a Sunday!
