I'm wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2008. :)
Lots to get to today. First, I fibbed a little. Sprout wasn't my final FO of 2007 - these were:
Once again, matching nail polish is optional but it totally completes the "Sweeney Todd"/Vampirella vibe I've got going on. ::wink::
I used Red Heart and, although it's killing me to admit it, I think it makes a better mitt than the Main Line I used first. The acrylic is more elastic so the fit is better and it doesn't loosen with wear.
Now - in order to start as I mean to go on, yesterday I hit the Michael's 30% off yarn sale and bought more for my Leaves Sweater (on which I've made very good progress during the last day or so):
Cotton Ease in "Charcoal" for a project that still a little hazy in my mind but I think I'm going to design something:
I wasn't sure I liked the "prefaded" look of the black at first but it's grown on me.
I also picked up two skeins of Tweedle Dee, just to see how they stripe in a scarf:
One good thing about not seeing friends until well after Christmas is that you get time to second guess yourself and your gifts and make something new! Although I'm thinking this won't be a full length scarf - probably something along the lines of a Fidget.
So, craft wise, the first week of 2008 will be spent sewing on Colin's quilt (oh yes, it WILL be finished before school reconvenes!), knitting on my Gathered Pullover, crocheting on Leaves, and knitting a couple of scarves.
I'd like to predict right now that the quilt and Leaves will be finished by next Tuesday when we start school again.
And as long as I'm predicting, here are some long term thoughts as well:
- Let's get real, folks. When/if I get that job offer I'll be working full time AND going to school full time. There's NO way I'll be able to crank out projects anywhere near the level I have been. The only saving grace is that there are no real tests in any of the classes for my licensure. Just lots of discussion & a few group projects. At least I won't be staying up 'til 2 AM cramming!
- Because my crafting production level is going to drop significantly (probably starting in the summer when I begin classes) I need to make what I DO finish, count. I mentioned in my year end review what cardis made me happy: 90% of the time it involved cables or lace and looked like it was terribly complicated to knit, whether it was or not. Those are the sorts of patterns I'll be sticking with for 2008. (With a few mindless dishcloths & hats & such thrown in for good measure.)
- In keeping with the above resolution, Rowan 40 is currently winging it's way here and Juno is at the top of my to-do list. Better late than never, eh?
- I'll also be sewing more. I'm much faster at sewing than knitting - Colin's quilt notwithstanding. ::wink:: Plus I have tubs & tubs of material that I need to USE! Quilts, the infamous aprons I never got around to this year, tea cozies, place mats, napkins, etc. Even some clothing after I've lost weight.
- Which brings me to: losing weight. It's such a cliche to say that you're going to on New Year's day but here I am. I'm really pissed at myself for being lazy this year & not losing what I needed to. Once school started exercise dropped by the wayside & there I was - still as pudgy or pudgier than last year! So - a regimen will be followed and the weight WILL be lost. I just need to stay focused, ignore being tired all the time, and keep my eyes on the prize. If I can lose 20 pounds by the end of school I'll be thrilled. Another 10 more over the summer and I'll be modeling sweaters again without cute camera angles! Then when I'm swamped with work & school in the fall, I'll be able to maintain by keeping to a strict schedule. It's the only way I'll make it through.
There you have it - my new year in a couple of paragraphs.
What's on your plate for 2008? (The rhyming was inadvertent.)
