Because I've been reading so many "year in review" posts, I decided to do one of my own. Usually I save the crafting stuff for my blog anniversary, but I'll throw that into the mix too.
According to Ravelry, I didn't do a heck of a lot last year. Well, I didn't do a heck of a lot the second half of the year, to be more precise.
From January to June, I made 4 sweaters.
From June to December I made 2. Sweaters tend to be the weathercock by which I gauge time and general interest in the craft. Obviously, time failed me once school started and that was entirely foretold.
This is a huge departure from other years, when I've averaged one per month! The difference is that while those other years I worked, I worked blind. Come in, keep the class on track, try not to screw them up too badly. Now I'm not blind, I've actually seen the light. Besides not doing something dastardly to really screw them up, you have to be concerned with the long term. The fact that one lesson plan needs to lead into another, sometimes with a break, but most often with a smooth transition that the students don't even know is coming. :) This is infinitely harder and more difficult to sustain that just being "the kids favorite substitute." It's a wonder I've managed a hat & scarf these past few months...
So my resolutions, such as they are, are stating the obvious types:
1. I will, under no circumstance, screw up my licensing classwork. I have a 4.0 and intend to keep it that way.
2. I will, however, at least attempt some semblence of calm in the face of the stress that is sure to come with my academic endeavors. (In other words, don't worry myself sick. Easier said than done!)
3.As I have said before, I can do anything for one year. One year from now it all will be done - special AP licensing, 12 hours of Master's level gifted endorsement classes, and the final reading classes necessary to receive a teaching license in the state of NM.
4. As for what will be accomplished with knitting and crocheting, I can't be as positive. I always start the new year as I mean to go on, so here is my first sweater of the new year:
(Pardon - the cat's been laying on it during TV watching tonight):
The black blob is the Vine Leap Top Down Cardi by the Sweater Babe. During this first part you really have to pay attention to directions & where you are in the pattern but so far it's very straight forward & easy to follow.
I'm also finishing up another neckwarmer:
And this....this has taken up a LOT of my time:
Yep - that's the welcome screen for Pearl Pokemon. See up there under time? Yes, that really is 46 hours and 30 minutes. Do you know how many sweaters I could've knit in that time?
But the knitting wouldn't have been half the fun of beating Trainers & Gym Leaders, catching Pokemon & earning $$. (Besides, this is a wonderful game to play while on the stationary bike to take your mind of how really rotten you're feeling!)
Back to Ravelry:
5. I also made hats, a few scarves, lots of dish cloths and towels, and a squid and a penguin. These sorts of small, easily knocked out in an evening or two will not go away from the Green household. When I don't need to think, I turn to garter and stockinette, so far they haven't steered my wrong. ;)
6. Finally, this will be a year of beginnings, not endings. I'm tired of death and dying. Since beginning this blog 5 years ago Doug & I have, between us, lost 3 parents, a very dear uncle, some not-so-dear-but-still-family-members, and a wonderful, sweet best friend to Doug. For the most part we knew these deaths were coming but predicting is an inexact science and we always seemed to be surprised.
7. That's it then, my mantra for 2009....No More Surprises.
Works for me!
