While at B&N yesterday picking up Dylan's independent study books (he found a beginning gamer's course - a total how-to to learn about video game design...much better than the computer graphics course he was going to take at that stupid school! He'll learn on his own & at his own pace. That's better anyway.) and found a couple magazines for myself.
I always have to buy the latest IK (I finally broke down & subscribed too):
While I love that cover sweater:
It's one I wish I had handed to me already finished 'cause I doubt I'll ever get around to making it.
Kathy Zimmerman's cabled sweater is gorgeous:
But I've learned in the past that I don't have a need for such a heavy, heavy sweater. Still...all that cabley goodness is lovely to see. :)
There are quite a few nice, basic patterns in this issue - I really like Cobblestone Pullover for example - but nothing is jumping out at me to make, unfortunately.
There is one awful design I just have to show:
Sorry, folks - I think the actual shape & design of the sweater is cute. But WHY make is so damn bulky? Even the incredibly thin model looks chunky in this one! Ewwwww!
Along the same line, what in the hell was this crochet designer thinking?:
That capelet is thicker than the bathmat I crocheted! I just have to say it - it's hideous! And in yellow, yet.
However, I still bought the magazine for this:
From the hideous to the sublime, eh? I'm still deciding whether it would make my hips look too big...or maybe I just wouldn't put so much filler at the sides. I just think it's terribly pretty. :)
And here's something else that's terribly pretty:
The magazine states this afghan would make a great wedding present & they're right - it's gorgeous.
And for some reason I really like these slippers:
and these booties are tooooo cute:
When I came home, I found this Sandra waiting in the mail (March, 07 from ebay. I've broken down & gotten a subscription to this too):
Which I purchased for these patterns:
Wouldn't that look great in CE?
I don't know why I like that long vest, but I do. It's totally uncharacteristic of me, but there you have it. At least it's not a cardi! LOL However, this IS:
I really love that lace. :)
I think that's enough pix for today - I still have Vogue to review too but I'll save it for another day.
Miscellaneous catch up:
*** Today I get my permanent crowns at 8:30 - at least it's over with early in the day!
***If anyone's wondering what ever happened to my weight loss plans, I'm back on track, exercising much more than I used to, cutting calories, and (of course) I've gained 3 pounds. This time it probably is just that I'm replacing fat with muscle because I certainly look thinner than I did just 10 days ago. (Gotta love that Ab Lounge!) I find that I'm staying on my recumbent bike a lot longer since I got my iPod video. It's easier to exercise when I'm watching something than just listening to music. (I've watched the entire VH1 Celebrity Paranormal Project on the iPod. You haven't lived until you've seen David Carradine hunt ghosts...and Evander Holyfield....and Danny Bonaduce. What a hoot!)
****I've been thinking about my new school schedule. The mornings will be very hectic around here - Dylan needs to be up, ready & at the bus stop (which, thankfully, is practically outside our front door) by 6:40. I need to have myself and Colin ready to leave here at 7:40ish every day. I've already decided to move my exercise time to the afternoon (no matter how exhausted I am from school) but I'm not sure yet about blogging. It might be hit or miss for awhile until I hit my stride. So bear with me.
***3 contest packages went out yesterday, 3 more will go out today as soon as I go buy envelopes. :)
***Wanda's having a cool B-day card exchange on her blog - go check it out. I enrolled because I never, ever get paper cards anymore for my birthday and this way I know I'll get at least one. ::Grin::: Wanda, of course, will make out like a bandit - lucky girl!
***We've been madly trying to get our old house ready for market. Of course, the housing market is tanking right now but we're hoping it won't affect our little corner of the world. The tile guy is almost finished so I'll be posting pix of his handiwork. It's really gorgeous. The old house is looking so nice, in fact, that we're kinda bummed we didn't get to live there & enjoy it for awhile!
Th-th-th-th-th-th-that's all, folks!

I like the little sublime top you picked out. I think my mother would look good in that top. I might have to go pickup that magazine. I will have to go to the bookstore and pickup that magazine. I use to have a subscription but I haven't renewed. I might renew again this fall.
I am also starting to plan my morning routine. It will be the first time getting up early to get Sierra off for school. I had insomnia again last night.
I don't know if I told you this or if you have had a crown before...so ignore this if you already know. When you get the crown, make sure that it is sitting well in your mouth, not too high and make sure that it is comfortable, etc.
The last crown I got it didn't feel right. My tongue thought it was "too smooth." What it ended up being was that the groove wasn't deep enough and my other teeth would come down on it too much. I ended up chipping my crown.
So, if it doesn't feel right, keep having them mess with it until it feel like the other teeth. Otherwise your tongue will bother you for the next 6 weeks, telling you it is fake. Mine did. Ha ha...

My subscription comment was about IK, I sound so redundant. Did I mention I didn't sleep, lol.

I love the IK cover sweater, too, but I know I won't wear it -- plus the fact that the ribbing in the front goes OUT at the waist actually does the opposite of defining the waist. It is a very cute pattern though!
The superchunky sweater is Twinkle's style -- did you see her book? Worth a flip-through. It's all supposed to be runway knits, yadda yadda.
[btw if you JUST stepped up the exercise, it's water retention, not muscle vs. fat. it'll drop off in a week or so. Takes my body two weeks. :) ]
Hope the crown work goes okay!

It will take a little time to adjust to your new schedule and develop a good routine. Don't worry about your loyal readers. We'll just keep checking your Blog!
Have a great day everyone!

You are such an enabler! I saw the Sandra magazine cover and had to search it out for myself. Just placed the order.

New patterns galore! Those little crochet baby booties are so cute. I am lovin the new IK! Although I didn't like the Twinkle cardi either. I like some of her designs, but never the ones that are available to handknitters!

Bron, I'm curious about the beginning gamer's course ya'll got. B is becoming interested in computer animation, and I'd love to look into getting him something like this. Could you email me the title? I'd really appreciate it!

I love those designs but I never seem to make anything out of the magazines I buy so I'm going on a mag diet for a while. But I will live vicariously through others who knit from them.
My son looked into making video games as a profession and he says your son is doing the right thing. Mainstream computer courses don't have what game designers need.

Hi Bron; My daughter is also interested in learning video game design, which is not a course at her highschool, could you possibly share the title of the book you got for Dylan? Thanks so much.

I saw the crochet mag cover and thought "that looks like Blair"...and it was. Once a soap addict, always a soap addict. Even if I don't watch them anymore.
That trapeze top is really cute! and the booties! So cute.
