Since I deserted my Shapely Tank knit from Endless Summer Cotton I've been trying to think of something else to make from the yarn. A day or two ago, on KList, someone linked to this pattern: Lace-Up Tank Top and I thought I'd share in case anyone else was looking for a Shapely alternative. I've printed out the pattern, but doubt I'll get to it this summer.
Here's a blast from the past:
Right after we were married (14 years ago) I decided to make a sweater for Doug. I have no idea where I got the pattern since it's long gone (along with my Boye size 10 needles from my set!) but I think the yarn is probably Caron Simply Soft. I had most of the body finished when he ruptured two discs in his back while working at a plumbing job 150 miles away. The next 3 months were a round of Drs. & opinions & lots & lots of pain. I put the knitting aside & forgot about it. (I didn't knit for stress relief back then.) When I picked it up again, I hadn't forgotten where I was in the pattern, I'd forgotten the SIZE I was knitting.
I had to guess and keep going.
See that interesting little jog where the front buttons at the top?
I guessed wrong.
He's still worn it, bless him, and he insists that no-one can see the mistake but me. He's lying, but it's nice to hear. :::Grin:::
ANYWAY...because he hasn't changed size since that time (damn him!) I'm using this sweater's measurements to help in designing his new one. I figured out my gauge (ick!) and cast on 174 stitches yesterday. I'll be knitting in the round on this one - TV knitting at it's best. He wants no ribbing, no frills, no nothing. Just plain stockinette for the whole thing.
I'm using Amore..yep, Red Heart. I had a mini-heart-attack moment when reading one KList entry. (On the REALLY off-chance that woman ...or someone that knows that woman...is reading this....go away now!) A woman wrote about her new DIL giving her icky, scratchy, Red Heart Amore yarn in two colors that she really dislikes. I thought - "Oh, oh - I didn't think it was scratchy when I fondled it in the store! REGULAR Red Heart is icky & scratchy, but Amore?" Hmmmm....I knit up a little bit & breathed a sigh of relief. Basically spongey soft, in my opinion, and it'll be tough enough for hubbie to wear the sweater to work.
The woman then went on to say she'd use the yarn for something for the couple (implying she'd never have an item knitted from that :::sniff::: stuff in her home) and asked how she could let her DIL know she only knits with wool?
I could say a lot right here, but I won't. (Hmmmm...well....then again....no - no, I won't!) I just think it's lovely her DIL thinks enough of her to give her a gift of any sort. I would think that after spending some time around her new MIL she'll realize where her yarn tastes lie and not buy acrylics again.
As for me, I'm going to apply to join this new ring: Acrylics Anonymous I use acrylics often enough to be self-conscious about it so I think I need help coming out of the closet. :::Grin::::
Thanks for the link, Nat!
